You? Me? Him? Whose 'You'?

Could it be 'you' is  ambiguous? If someone is yelling hey 'you', and one turns around, is one answering to 'you'? Would it be best to say are you talking to me? Why assume 'you' is you? Could it be simple as asking questions to come to an understanding of who 'you' is talking too?
